and crows leave

for cardinals
stuck in the trees.
believe me,
ilex verticillata is astringent, it
slices beaks,
yet they eat it
while rosemary is
savory and
grown by all the roads,
almost pine tar in taste. their purple
flowers hide
the walkway like old dill by
red porch steps
pretending they
are regular evergreens and i
say on nights like this:
